Looking for your first cattle dog without all the 'cattle dog' traits/behaviors, or, looking for a great second dog who gets along with all he meets (2 & 4 legged!) with a smile on his face, or, perhaps looking for a fun-loving easy-going roommate to entertain and watch over you and your home? Then meet Odin: part cattle dog, part couch potato. Due to the rigors of my job, I have not been home near enough for my best pal and he deserves (and wants) a better, more engaging lifestyle. Since he is an only dog at my home right now, being home in an empty house for long hours (which is not going to change soon) is not at all fair to my boy, so I am looking for a better suited home for him. Odin is a loving 2 %BD year old neutered male cattle dog, born February 2, 2021 and he has the energy of a cattle dog but only in short bursts, and is happy to have down time too! (Thank goodness!) His favorite things are: chasing herding balls and squeaky toys and playing in water. He also finds satisfaction in chewing on sticks. He walks pretty great on a leash and isn't bothered by hustle bustle of the streets, kids on bikes, other dogs, walks/joggers, or even wildlife. If there is water to splash around in, he will pull you over to it if he thinks he can splash and play in it! Has been with children as young as 2 years old with no problem. Has only been near one cat and was more curious than anything. As any cattle dog in his yard, he has chased squirrels and rabbits because it is fun, but ignores them on walks, has been within a couple feet of squirrels with no reaction. (See his Youtube videos, link below.) Knows commands: sit, down, come, spot, and sometimes even listens to stay if he thinks there is food on the other end. Get this, Odin STAYS in his yard or around his family and is great off leash, no straying or bolting, so a fenced yard is preferred but not mandatory. He would still prefer to be walked every day even if new home has a fence because he enjoys going for a daily stroll for some additional exercise. Odin seems to prefer cooler weather and snow over summer and heat, unless water is around to play in! He is pretty agreeable with most any dog friends he meets both on an off leash! He is all around just a fun loving, easy going dog. As with most heelers, Odin is very loyal to one person, but will happily engage with other family members and visitors (probably too friendly to strangers) and he loves all and any human attention. He is good at entertaining himself with his toys but he likes to have an eye on all the activity in the house. Will always attempt to be involved in whatever is going on-what cattle dog wouldn't? He is microchipped, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives. When Odin was younger, he went through obedience training and behavior modification for mild reactivity, which he seems to have managed well as he has grown up. He's a fun guy and pretty easy to manage, but he does need boundaries and an owner who will uphold his training because if you give a cattle dog an inch'|.. He enjoys car rides but will pace from window to window until we get to our destination. Generally, he enjoys and is a good patient at vet visits (except the needle part) and is not on any medications. Odin is both house and crate trained. He has learned that when I am in bed that it is time for quiet, and he sleeps as well, but new/unfamiliar noises may cause him to bark. When home alone, he stays in his crate. When scared at a new noise, he will run to his crate, as he feels safe there. (Yay!) Will need someone that is willing to work with him during the separation split from my home to yours (what can I say, we have spent the first 3 years of his formative life together) and I assume there will be an adjustment period for him, but once he is settled, I know he will be great. Multiple meetings to make him comfortable with the new people before moving should help mitigate the change. Odin is my buddy and I want the best for him so I am looking for potential adopters within a few hours of Odin's home, zip code 44124, (Mayfield Hts, Ohio) as I would prefer to have a few successful meet and greets before rehoming him.
