About Poke

German Shepherd / Siberian Husky
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Intake Date: 19 June 2022 ----- Age: 3.5 yrs ----- Breed: Shepherd, Husky, Hound mix ----- Size: 65 lbs. ----- Status: surrender to SVAS. Adopted and returned 4 times. Transfer to Animal Empowerment League ----- Compatible with: Dogs, cats, older children. ----- Suitable for: home with a yard ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: can be shy, anxious ----- Additional Notes: Poke! She is the sweetest girl who needs a constant in her life. We have a unique history with Poke although we hadn't not seen her in a couple of years. This energetic pup started out life with puppies of her own in a shelter when she was just a young gal herself. She was adopted but then returned & placed into foster. This isn't always a bad thing except it happened another 4 times. Thankfully, she had the same foster to come back to each time. We saw Poke listed on a surrender page and learned that she was placed in a home that was very much mismatched for her. This really was no fault of the adopters or Poke. We're hoping we can change the course of Poke's life and get her into a matched home that can show her what life means when you stick it out for the long haul. She reportedly does great with other cats (we recommend slow intro) but needs slow introductions with other dogs to successfully adjust. Poke has worked with our behaviorally educated dog trainer in the past and has both her and our support. She has challenges with anxiety (understandably so!) but has settled at her foster home well and is being tapered off the medications currently. We will likely send her to a new home with medication to begin with for her initial transition period. No one can blame her for how many times she's gone from home to home. How could she ever know what's going to happen next? Interested in Poke?
