Moonpie was so frightened in the scary shelter with all the noise and strange people that she nipped someone, so the staff there wisely decided that she needed the more normal environment that a rescue could offer. Wow, were they correct! As soon as Moonpie left the building with her New Rattitude foster mom, she became a different dog, giving her foster mom kisses and wagging her tail! Frisky as a puppy, Moonpie is actually around 2 years old and fully grown at 11 lbs. She's reliably house-trained with regular opportunities to go out. She rides well in a car and while she walks nicely on a leash, those walks can be distracting for her. The squirrels that need chasing and the dogs that must be barked at may cause her to forget to go potty. To keep her reliably house-trained, you must have a fenced yard. Moonpie doesn't like being crated when she's alone, but luckily she's trustworthy left loose indoors when her foster parents go out. She'll enjoy sleeping with you at night, or she'll sleep quietly in a crate beside you. She loves the other (similarly sized) dogs in her foster home and needs a playful canine companion in her new home. Moonpie balances her energy with a calm side, so when she has finished running zoomies in your fenced yard and chewing her bones, she'll happily curl up on your lap or on the couch. She likes following her foster mom around and often hangs out with her in the kitchen 'helping' with meals. Moonpie prefers meeting new people and dogs on her home turf. She doesn't enjoy dog parks, and if you need to travel, she would do better having a house sitter than going to a boarding facility. Because she nipped someone during those dark days at the shelter, Moonpie should not go to home with small children.
