About Poppy

*Read to the end for adoption information.* CALLING ALL CHIHUAHUA LOVERS!!! Meet POPPY! Poppy is a 6-year-old, 5.6 pound Chihuahua LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Attention and playtime. HIGHLIGHTS: Happy, friendly... Miss Personality! Poppy came to rescue as an owner surrender. Sadly, her long time owner has dementia and was not able to keep her anymore. Poppy is 100%, pure Chihuahua...sweet and sassy and adorable! She is a very happy, friendly, and playful little dog. We are convinced that she has never met a stranger in her life. She likes to give kisses and snuggles up next to you at night to sleep. She is perfectly happy to curl up in your lap or in a dog bed and amuses herself with toys. Poppy has a very puppy-like energy and loves nothing more than playing with stuffed toys or with your hand or doing zoomies in the yard. She loves to be petted and scratched and will jump up on your leg when she would like you to hold her or give her belly rubs. Poppy gets along well with other dogs but is definitely a little alpha dog. She should go to a home with another dog of similar size and age (or younger) who won't be intimidated by her energy and playfulness. She tries to get the dogs in her foster home to play by twerking against them and then peeking over her shoulder to see if they will take her up on her suggestion. She takes cues fairly well, but gets very excited if she thinks they will play with her and she can be relentless when she wants to play. She sometimes mistakes a growl for encouragement. She would probably be fine as an only dog as long as she gets lots of attention and stimulation from her person, but she would be happy with a little dog who will play with her. Poppy is being fostered in a home with cats and has no issues with them. She would love the attention of older kids, but because she is mouthy when she plays, she is not the best fit for younger ones. Poppy walks great on a leash and adores going on car rides! She gets very excited if she thinks she is going for a ride and her adopter will need to watch the front door when they leave because she will want to go too. Poppy has had a couple of accidents in her foster home, but only when she's not been able to go outside. For the most part she holds it and does very well. She is always happy to see you when you come home and usually will curl up in a doggy bed or on the sofa while you are away. She loves treats, can jump like a jackrabbit, and sometimes gets under your feet when she knows food is coming her way. Poppy has been to the vet for a wellness check, is spayed, up to date on shots, fecal tested, is heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. We got her a dental and she had 11 teeth removed so her breath smells much better for those kisses now! Poppy is a sweet fun little dog who will bring a lot of joy to her new family! Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. Most others we will consider within a 5-hour drive. We do not ship or transport our dogs. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted.
