Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Meet Leia! Leia is a 10 year old Pitbull mix who was tied to an outside dog house most of her life. When she could no longer have babies and the owner dumped her, some kind people brought her to the shelter. Due to her hard life, Leia has severe arthritis in her front legs. She takes two medications several times a day to help with this. The cost for one is around $50 a month and the other is $30. One of our generous donors will be sponsoring Leia's medication for the first year in her adoptive home. Due to her limited mobility, a house with minimal stairs would be preferred. She also goes out pretty frequently and requires 3 meals a day, so she will do best in a household where she is not left alone for extended periods of time. . While a fenced in yard would be great for her sunbathing, it's not required. Leia LOVES going for car rides and her whole face lights up with joy. She loves to be brushed and petted, loves being outside and exploring, and figuring out food puzzles. She also loves belly rubs and sunbathing by a slider. Leia would love to be the apple of your eye but does well with small, mellow dogs. She can be scared of larger breeds. She has a wonderful attitude, and despite her arthritis, she will do whatever it takes to get where she wants to go. After all her hardships, this loving baby deserves a happily-ever-after.
