Ruby was found lying in the middle of the gravel road leading to the Bethany MO dog pound. The people that almost ran over her picked her up and brought her to the pound. This is an unmanned pound, luckily one of our volunteers was there cleaning. Ruby was weak, she couldn't go far without falling over, and was dehydrated. Our volunteer took her home for her 5 day stray hold. Nobody ever came looking for her. Ruby is an extreme senior. We don't know how old she really is. She weighs 12 pounds. We were pretty worried about Ruby, but this old girl has some spunk and fight left in her. As soon as her stray hold was up, we took her to the vet. She is now spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, microchipped, had a dental, and a full blood panel. Ruby does well with other dogs but doesn't really play or interact with them except to follow them out to the yard. She doesn't see or hear well but navigates around her environment easily. It would be best for her to have a fenced yard since her vision and hearing are compromised. Ruby does spend a lot of time sleeping. She loves her soft dog bed and blanket. At night she sleeps with her foster dad. She bounces and plays with him for short periods of time. Like many of us, Ruby is weak waking up. Her foster dad carries her outside for her to do her business in the morning. The rest of the day she goes out on her own. Due to her age and size Ruby needs to go out often. If she doesn't get outside in time, she will have an accident. If you would like to meet Ruby, please complete the adoption application on our website: www.furfunrescue.org. If you have questions about Ruby, you can contact [email protected] or call 319-929-6657. Adopters must be within a two-hour radius of Cedar Rapids, IA. Indoor homes only. Adoption fee is $150.
