This sweet girl just turned a year old in May. To think that the beginning of her life was living in a basement along with her parents and siblings. Cocoa is one smart cookie! She was crate trained in 2 days with positive reinforcement (food). Walks well on a leash but is extremely sensitive to any type of pressure from a collar. She is fine with a light slip lead or nylon martingale which is what we are using now. A harness was tried but she will only lay down and not move. Maybe in time and with instilling some self confidence, she will overcome some of the obstacles. She seemed to be fine with other dogs but right now with being in heat, she is a little moody. Foster Mom's dog initiated play but she went after her. I'm sure once she is out of this hormonal stage, she will be fine playing with other dogs. As for cats, she is curious and will follow them around. Cocoa is very sensitive to a raised or stern voice. Just a quiet firm correction and she will be fine. Anything more than that and she will shut down and try to hide or cries. This sweetheart needs a home that will be patient but work on building up her confidence and showing her that the world will be fine. But also keep in mind, she can be assertive if need be, hey, she's a doberman, but with each day and being shown what is expected of her, she will definitely be a great companion for someone. If you're interested in Cocoa, go to www.dvdpa.org and then to adopt to fill out an application.
