About Lewis

LEWIS is a 10 year old, 10.7 pound Dachshund mix LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Quiet home, fenced yard. HIGHLIGHTS: Laid back companion! Lewis came to us after his mom came upon some rough times. She loved him very much and tried everything she could to keep him, but it finally got to the point where that wasn't possible anymore. Lewis is a sweet boy who was so nervous when he came into rescue that all he did was shake uncontrollably. Once we got him into a quiet foster home where he could start to decompress we noticed that he seemed to be having some issues with his mouth. Turns out along with the nervousness, Lewis was in a lot of pain. He had a terrible infection in his mouth and gums, and both ears were infected. After extracting multiple teeth, and packing his ears, he is feeling much better and starting to enjoy life again! Lewis is an easy going, pleasant fellow. He likes to sit on or near you and rub up against you. He will be a good little companion to snuggle in the chair with while sharing popcorn and watching movies! Lewis was an only dog in his prior home, but gets along with all the other small calm dogs in his foster home. We have not had him around cats and we think he'd be happier without kids. Lewis is not crazy about wearing a harness and his ability to walk on a leash could use a little more practice. For that reason we would prefer a home with a fenced yard. He knows how to use the doggy door and goes out to potty. The only times he has an accident in the home or when he could not go out for a period of time and he appears to be about 98% housebroken. At night he likes to sleep at the bottom of the big bed. Lewis has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. When he had his dental he lost 23 teeth, and he is good to go now! Lewis would love a nice quiet home with a family looking for a calm sweetheart of a boy and a companion! Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. We do not ship or transport our dogs. Applicants should live within a 5 hour drive to Pensacola. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted. *We review multiple applications for each dog and pick the best fit.
