About Duke

Adoption Fee: $500.00
Schnauzer
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

DUKE is a 3 year old, 27.8 pound male Mini Schnauzer LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: A playmate, fenced yard. HIGHLIGHTS: Friendly and loyal, he's a good boy! Duke was surrendered to us through not fault of his own. His people got a divorce and neither was able to keep him. He was pretty matted when he came in so we had to shave him down, once his hair grows out he's going to be gorgeous! Duke is unsure of strangers, but once he gets to know you, he loves you so much and is very loyal. He's the type of dog that wants to be with you at all times and will follow you wherever you go. He loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed! He sleeps in the big bed and likes to chill on anything soft during the day. Duke is not super energetic, but he isn't lazy either. He's happy to do whatever you want to do, whether that's lying in bed or going on a walk. He likes to nap throughout the day, but he never actually sleeps until nighttime, just in case you decide to leave the room-- because then he would have to follow you! Duke was in a home with another dog (who was surrendered with him- the two dogs are not bonded at all) and gets along fine with other dogs, he is not a fan of big dogs though. He would like to have a female doggy friend that is around his size. We don't think he would be a good dog with little kids, but he loves the teenager in his foster home, she is his special person! We have not had him around cats but think he would probably bark at them. Duke is very vocal. He barks when you leave him in a different room than you, and he makes very excited noises when his teenaged foster human comes home from school, work, or running errands. When you talk to him, he grumbles happily back as if he's having a conversation with you. If he doesn't know you, he will bark when you approach him, but his tail is usually wagging at the same time! He should not be in an apartment because of how verbal he is. Duke is not fully housebroken, but he will go potty outside as long as you go with him and he knows how to use a doggy door. He is an escape artist, so he needs a secure, fenced in yard. Duke hasn't shown much interest in toys or playing with other dogs, but he does play with people occasionally. He's young so that will likely change once he gets into his new home! Duke has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. He's a very good boy who will be a great fit for the right home!
