Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email [email protected]. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Raven is a very shy, sweet, gentle, and smart barely senior 8 year old beagle looking for a family that will give her the loving home that she deserves and have the patience to help her overcome her fears. Prior to coming to Senior Dog Haven she lived in an outdoor pen with 11 other beagles. We were told that prior to this she had a home where she was abused. Since coming to SDHH Raven has been treated for Lyme disease, dewormed, and had a spay, dental cleaning, and microchip. She is now healthy and ready to look for her perfect forever home! Raven enjoys the company of other dogs and followed the lead of the 6 lb chihuahua in her foster home to learn how to be an indoor dog. Initially she would sleep in a hiding place but she now follows her around and sleeps next to her foster sister. Raven has done well with house training when taken out on a schedule, but does not 'ask' to go out. She has no problems overnight and when left home alone. Raven enjoys leash walks and is well behaved on a leash. However, after 5 weeks in foster care it is still rare for her to 'go' on leash so she would probably do best in a home with a fenced in yard. Raven is a very quiet dog and her foster family has never heard her bark. Raven is indifferent to cats. She is good with calm children but she is easily scared by loud noises and will cower or hide. She is nervous around new people and is likely to spend a lot of time hiding in a new home. Initially you may need to pick her up to get her out of a hiding spot and take her out. So far she will only eat when she has privacy and has her meals either in a crate or in a room by herself. Other than that she is not crated in her foster home. With time and patience Raven will start coming out of her shell and approach for pets and cuddles. In her foster home she now runs to the front door to greet her family when they return home and gets excited at the word walk'. Raven is the sweetest beagle girl and would be perfect for an adopter looking for a calm and lovable companion for themself and another dog or dogs.
