About Edna

Adoption Fee: $175.00
Italian Greyhound / Chihuahua
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

EDNA is an almost 5 year old, 15 pound beautiful female Italian Greyhound Chihuahua mix LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: No kids, fenced yard, lots of love and reassurance. HIGHLIGHTS: Loyal and protective, so sweet and devoted to her person. Edna's backstory is not a particularly good one. She was adopted from another rescue in 2019 and found at a Motel 6 in Texas along with a dog adopted from us. We brought both dogs back to Florida and asked the other rescue if we could keep Edna. We found out that the adopter had been having issues for the last few years that unfortunately affected the dogs and how they were living. Edna needs someone to give her a chance. She is one of the most lovable dogs you could ever meet and she just needs the right owner to love her back! Edna particularly has had a hard time of it. She was the one most closely in tune with her owner and suffered more. As a result she can sometimes be protective of her people, and suspicious of strangers. We found out that she was not treated well by a male at some point and she is more wary of men, but she adored the foster dad in her first foster home once she knew him. Edna is an incredibly sweet dog who craves positive attention and kind words. Once she knows you she is a very friendly little girl, and it doesn't take her too long to figure out that someone is her friend. Her little tail wags when she sees someone she knows and she does the cutest belly crawl all over the place when she is getting attention! She also gives the best hugs and isn't shy with the kisses. Edna has good energy and would like to have a family to spend time with her. She can be a barker and is not best suited to apartment/condo/town home living. She wasn't housebroken when she came in but has done so well recently that her foster mom is comfortable saying she is now! She may have an accident or two in a new home but once she learns the routine she should be fine. Edna should go to a home with a fenced yard. She can be a bit territorial and she does not get along well with most other dogs. BUT she recently made a doggy friend in her foster home, a young bigger female that she likes to play with. So we think with the right dog she will be ok. Edna has been around a dog savvy teenager and was perfectly fine, but we don't recommend a home with younger kids. We don't know how she would be with cats. At night Edna likes to curl up to sleep with her family in the big bed. Edna is so loving once you get past her initial hesitation of new people. We hate that she has not had a stable home and know that once she finds her true forever family where she knows that she is safe, her little heart will open wide and she will be so happy. Edna has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, fecal and heartworm tested, has had 12 month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with lifetime registrations. She is heartworm positive and has been started on treatment that is covered by the rescue until she tests negative. Please consider giving her the home she deserves!
