For an adorable video of Bix, please visit: https://youtu.be/vDC023jC50Q Name: Bix Age: 7.5 years per vet but could be older Breed: Boston Terrier mix, small, 26# Sex: Male, neutered Location: Stamford County, CT Vet Information: Bix is neutered but not microchipped. He is up to date with vaccinations. Bix has cataracts, but he can see shadows and light. Bix is diabetic and needs 7 units of insulin twice a day, which he is very good about. His caretaker tells us, 'Other than that, he is a strong and healthy boy. He is not delicate whatsoever and loves to play. His teeth aren't the greatest so I have recommended his family pay for a dental cleaning, but they have declined at this time. They just have a lot of plaque and tartar which gives him bad breath.' Caretaker Report: Bix's original owner sadly passed away. His original owner's family is unable to care for Bix, so he has been living with his pet sitter for about six months. He's currently in need of rescue or an adoptive home. Bix is an indoor dog with the run of the house. He's housebroken and leash trained. We are told that he is pee pad trained, but that he will sometimes miss in new environments. With a good schedule, he doesn't have accidents. According to his caretaker, he is amazing about going outside to potty (1 and 2) and coming back on his own. His caretaker just opens the door, and he does his thing and comes back. He also barks sometimes when he needs to go. His caretaker tells us that Bix is an AMAZING listener; he doesn't know the typical sit and paw tricks, but he listens to commands like come here, this way, go outside, stop, no, etc. Bix is an outgoing boy who is good with men, women, teenagers, male and female dogs, cats, and other small animals. He currently lives with an adult dog, a puppy, a cat, and a rat. His caretaker tells us, 'Bix is mostly good with other dogs. He does get growly and barky initially but only until he smells the other dog. Sometimes if he doesn't initially like the dog he'll protect his space by growling and biting the air, but he has never actually hurt a dog and has peacefully coexisted with even the most annoying dog. He would prefer to be left alone and doesn't like the high energy since he is mostly blind and gets scared. He does get stressed when a dog is all over him.' She tells us that Bix can show aggression only when he is scared and someone is not respecting his boundaries. She notes, 'He has never actually hurt anyone, but he gets possessive over food because he loves to eat and can't see so he thinks it'll get taken away. Once he's comfortable with the person, he would never growl or bite. I have stuck my hand in his bowl while he's eating, and he has never shown any aggression.' 'He is the best boy ever and the 'aggression' sounds worse than it is. I am a dog sitter, and he has been around lots of other dogs so I know for a fact he can coexist. My pup is also a bit reactive, and they are perfectly fine together. They have only 'fought' when it comes to food, but he has never actually bitten her. He listens so well when he is being growly towards new dogs. I just pet his head or tell him to stop, and he listens. He just wants to feel safe,' his caretaker tells us. His Caretaker Would Like You To Know: 'He is a quirky old man. He has an overall friendly personality, and all he wants is to just sit with someone, although he is perfectly fine being left alone in a gated area. He does get aggressive with new dogs because he gets scared (he is mostly blind). I have had lots of dogs board in my home and with a proper introduction he is great with cats and other pups. He just does not like to be bothered so he will do best in a home without any children, puppies, or high-energy dogs. I have two dogs and a cat, and he is perfect with my older pup, but does not like my puppy (the poor guy gets stressed). My favorite thing about him (other than his lovey-dovey and playful personality) is that he is an amazing listener! He spends most of his days sleeping and eating. I think he would be the perfect pup for an older individual or couple. Also, he loves blankets!' Does anyone have room for sweet Bix?
