About Ruffles

Meet Ruffles, He is 5 y old, neutered, up to date on shots. Sweet boy, will love you to the Moon and back. He is afraid of dogs.Ruffles was surrendered to a kill shelter for reasons unknown to us. he is 5 y old which in general makes it really unlikely for him to be adopted from kill shelter and FIV (this is really should make no difference , he is up to date with shots and neutered and can live long heathy normal life). This boy couldn't be more sweeter. Everyone in shelter adores him. Ruffles FIV+ What we know about FIV: 1. FIV itself is NOT life threatening 2. FIV can NOT be transmitted to people 3. FIV +(positive) cats actually have a strong immune system. They just happened to have exposed to FIV. Most future infections that could affect the cat be handled with appropriate medications and vet visits just as you would a FIV neg 4. FIV+ cats have no more illnesses than any other group of rescue cats 5. A properly cared for FIV+ house cat need not have a shortened life expectancy 6. Without testing you may NEVER know a cat had it 7. Euthanasia of FIV+ cats is a very sad extreme overreaction, but still happens due to lack of understanding and education. 8. in over 30 years of research there NO evidence of casual transmission: food bowl or litter pans, or casual grooming in cohabiting cats. 9. There is a low prevalence in apparently heathy cats. Dr. Nicole Putney from Cornell University says ' You can not trust a+ result in an apparently heathy cat' It is recommended to retest this in2-4 weeks as a+ test in a healthy cat is likely a false positive.
