To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. Those emails will get the quickest response, we do the best we can, but if we have to follow up with an email asking you about yourself and waiting for a response, well, we have already moved on to the next email that has provided the details. We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! :) He certainly is a handsome little guy, gotta give him that! If you saw him running around outside you may think you have seen a fox, he is a stunning little guy. He is said to be a Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix but perhaps a Pom/Shiba? Who knows, but he is gorgeous. He does not have the full fluff coat of a pom, it is fluffy but much shorter(not near as much grooming!) and it is full, soft and lush. We had a hard time figuring this guy out at first. He would be happy and wiggly, then a little snarly, wanted attention, but then was fearful. When we found out that he had been a persons' emotional support dog and then that person did not have time for him, it all kind of made sense. Here he had most likely been very close and bonded to that person, and his world has been turned upside down. Riley ended up in a large shelter at first, did not do very well settling in. He would given a little time, and would seek attention and lean into the person for some love. So, he came to our rescue to have a little more time to decompress. It can be overwhelming to move yet again and then to acclimate to a house with several dogs. Riley was very stressed at first, quite defensive, and I sure cannot blame him. But, given a little time he has done well, and we have figured him out a bit. He loves the other small dogs(females more so!) He is a little anxious around the big dogs and has challenged a couple. They ignored the little squirt and they all went about their day. He does NOT like voices to be raised, but will respond fully with quiet, peaceful sweet talk...you know...the 'what a good boy you are!!' voice, lol. You do get more flies with sugar than vinegar! Riley is looking for a very dog savvy home to settle into. He can be so sweet, funny and playful. He loves his toys. But his favorite thing is when you get out your cutting board and chop veggies, he LOVES any vegetable(escept onions, of course). He snacks on carrots, celery, sweet peppers, rutabaga, broccoli...you name it. He is one happy little guy. We think he will do well in a bit more peaceful home. Even when he was being ornery with us, it was important not to back down to him, we firmly told him to 'Lay down' and he did. He can be a hard headed little guy that must know that you are in charge, it is a Pom thing, ya know? We don't think he will do well with small children in his life, and please no long hours alone, he has suffered thru that already and was so sad. Riley is 6 years old and 14 pounds. He will go home with plenty of supplies to help him settle into his new home. His adoption fee is $275. Please email Kristine at [email protected] NO small children.
