About Royal

Adoption Fee: $475.00
Shih Tzu
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

ROYAL is a 5 year old, 11.9 pound male Shih Tzu LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Fenced yard HIGHLIGHTS: Sweet and fun...Mr. Personality! Royal's owners moved out and just left him behind in their neighborhood. A neighbor got him to safety and contacted us to see if we could take him, and how could we resist that sweet face? He came in as one of the most badly matted dogs we have ever had, and it didn't happen overnight. We spent hours cleaning him up, cutting out mats and taking dirty fur off like a cast, cutting through it and pulling it apart. When we finally got through the layers of filth and mats we found the most adorable little dog! When he first got here Royal was a bit guarded and quiet. Not surprising since he had been abandoned and was probably still feeling very confused and also hadn't been living in the best of places based on his condition. However, he took to his foster fur sister immediately. In less than 12 hours he became a spunky little boy that loves to play, get belly rubs and has a sweet tooth for treats. His foster mom says he is so much fun and has the best personality. He plays with toys and flip flops and does zoomies in the house. Once he gets to know you he loves hugs and kisses. Royal is gentle and sweet, and thinks his foster fur sister is his security blanket. At night, he sleeps in the bed with his foster mom, but also curls up close and snuggles with his fur sister. Royal gets along great with other dogs and we think he would be happiest with another little dog in the home but he would also be ok as an only dog as long as he wasn't left alone too much. Still we would prefer that he has a small doggy friend in his new home. He does not need to go back to a home where he is any less than perfectly loved, happy, and cared for! Royal is a lover who just wants to be close to his human or fur sibling. We have not had him around cats and think he would be fine with older kids. Little kids might be too much for him. Royal definitely likes his quiet time, he will jump on the couch and snuggle or curl up in his doggie bed for down time. He is not leash trained, but we are working on that. He is also not 100% housebroken. He needs to be encouraged to go outside, but he is easily motivated by treats and praise. Royal has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
