Meet ELLIE! STATS: 6 year old Bichon Poodle mix LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Fenced yard, no kids. HIGHLIGHTS: Sweet girl who loves her family! Little Miss Ellie is a quiet, sweet Bichon Poodle mix. She is 6 years old and is a bit overweight at 17 pounds. Her foster mom is working on this. Ellie is a very sweet dog with her people. She loves to be in a lap (or nearby). She also loves praise and pets and lots of loving. She is a happy little tail-waggy girl! Ellie attaches quickly and loves all the attention she can get. At night Ellie likes to sleep right next to her person in the big bed, and she loves to get belly rubs in the morning. Her prior family said she doesn't like strange men or strange dogs and we were told that she bit two strange men in her apartment complex. She did not have any problem with her dad, and she has not had any problem with any of the men she has encountered while in rescue. We are not sure what exactly happened there, but it's something to be aware of. Ellie coexists with other dogs in her foster home but would prefer to be an only dog getting all the love and attention for herself. She will scold the other pups if they get too rowdy, and doesn't interact with them much. Because she had that biting issue in her prior home we are going to say no children for her, and she has not been around cats that we are aware of. Ellie enjoys walks and walks well on a leash, but is going to do best in a home with a fenced yard. She has a bad habit of trying to dart out front doors and she does not like to come back when she is called, so whoever adopts her is going to need to be very careful about opening up doors when she's around, or have a plan in place to keep her from bolting out. Once if she gets out we were told that she knows the sit command and that usually will keep her in place until you can go and pick her up. Ellie seems to be mostly housebroken in her foster home as long as she gets out regularly. That said she does have some accidents and we were told that she had accidents in her prior home as well. She did not have a fenced yard in her prior home and that may have been a contributing factor. With a fenced yard where she can go out often she probably will do much better. She enjoys exploring the backyard. Ellie loves, loves to play with toys. She plays fetch with them or tug o' war and likes to lay them out for inspection! Ellie should be brushed often to keep her fur from matting. She is used to going to a groomer regularly and does very well there. Ellie is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
