About Buddy the Elf

Adoption Fee: $300
Maltese mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Buddy came from a very traumatic situation where he was found on the streets of South Los Angeles with his friend who was deceased. A good samaritan took him to the shelter where we rescued him from but he has since been experiencing some trauma that we are working on with him with professional training. It takes him a while to warm up to new dogs and to new people and he is still going through training to learn good manners while he is on a walk. He needs to be in a home with maybe only one owner and a couple other dogs are OK but with very little foot traffic or guests visiting because of his sensitivity to strangers. He does bond very quickly with his humans and he is such a sweet boy but given his background which we do not know anything about... We need somebody who will take the time to be patient with him and not place him in situations where he is fearful. He absolutely loves going on walks and hes doing really well with his walk training. But in order to take him out I need somebody to adopt him who will be a very strong leader for him and set him up for success so he doesn't have any incidents while walking. He could also potentially do really well in a home where it's somebody who is retired and just wants to hang out with him all day long and give him lots of love and cuddles. I don't believe that he would do well in a home with children or with high activity in the home. And at this point right now I don't believe that he's the type of dog that would do well with a younger person who wants to take him everywhere because he's just not ready for that aspect of social environments yet. I'm continuing to work with him every day and hes showing great promise and hes a super fast learner so I do believe at some point he'll get to where he'll be great around other dogs and new people but hes just not at that point yet. I'm happy to speak with anybody who has additional questions because I really want to set him up for success in a new home because he is just such a wonderful dog he just needs somebody who understands him and is willing to give him the patience and the time and the training that he needs.
