***Meet 5-year-old Belgian Tervuren named SABER!*** Currently in Pocatello, ID Needs Home as Only Pet SABER is the dog that received a Christmas Miracle. He has been living in a loving, experienced foster home, courtesy of Danniell with Dustin Time Rescue where he is getting all the love and absolutely the best care that he needs. His foster family is amazed at his recovery from an intentional gunshot wound that lodged in his spine and left him with paralyzed legs. SABER is doing awesome physically... He doesn't have any issues walking or moving. He has achieved a good weight. His tail still hangs funny, but that is likely because of nerve damage from the bullet. According to his previous owner, SABER's most favorite thing to do was play fetch and he can once again do that (see videos). He can even squat to poop now! SABER absolutely LOVES people--kids or adults. He comes when you call him. He is crate-trained and house-trained. SABER will need dog introductions with dogs. He can be dog-selective, likely from running stray and not being fixed for so long. He doesn't do well with high-energy dogs. He will go after them. He gets along with the resident, mellow dogs. He doesn't do well with cats unattended. He will bark and growl at them if they go near his kennel. SABER is wicked smart, so looking for an experienced home to be the leader that he needs. SABER walks on a leash very well. He knows 'sit', 'lay down', 'drop it', and 'get your ball'. SABER enjoys reliving his life on the lam, so a secure yard is a must. He has chewed through some nylon tie-outs as a way to get free. A home that will not leave him alone with livestock is best for SABER as we have observed him focusing on baby goats in the foster home. We are now looking for SABER's happy ending to his sad story. A HOME AS THE ONLY PET WOULD BE BEST FOR HIM. This guy has so much heart and just wants to give to his own family. Are you the family for him? SABER's adoption fee of $225 comes with his health vaccines, neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, and lots of supplies that were donated for his recovery. BACKGROUND: SABER was partially paralyzed because he was intentionally shot in the abdomen and the bullet lodged in his spine. He was living on his own, dragging his legs before finding himself in a shelter where he continued to drag his underside through urine and feces. His underside and hips were covered in bedsores and infection. His owner could not afford the required vet care expense, so he was turned into the local shelter. Friends Furever Animal Rescue rescued him on December 1, 2022.
