Ivy had a challenging start to life as a stray in Texas, where she found herself on the euthanization list. After being rescued and transported to Canada, Ivy is thriving in her foster home. Ivy has been in a foster home with both children and other dogs, and loved playing with both! Ivy has proven to be a sweet and silly girl. She is a schnauzer mix, approximately 4 years old. As Ivy did not have structure as a puppy it is important that she is provided training, structure and guidance. Ivy is very fortunate to be enrolled in training lessons and she has improved so much since she started. She walks well on a leash and knows to take the lead of her handler. Ivy is fully house and crate trained. She is a medium energy girl who would love an active household to go on adventures with. In her forever home, training and structured learning will allow her to be her best self. CANADIAN FOSTER UPDATE: We've had Ivy for about 3 months now and she is part of the family. Her and our other dog get along so well, whether they are cuddled up together or running around and playing. She would be great in a household with another dog, potentially similar in size as she can play a little rough. She also loves her cuddles with her people, she has so so much love to give. We have been working on her walking skills which have improved so much since she arrived (including her reactions to situations and surroundings). Ivy does have a prey drive, so we are working on that as well. Ivy knows commands such as; sit, place, and leave it. We have her practice 'sit' at the door before letting her out in the backyard or on a walk or before meals as she gets excited. She knows 'place', which is her bed outside of her crate. Ivy has good recall but when over stimulated this can vary. She is also working on laying down and she knows the command leave it. We live on a corner lot and she does react and bark when people walk by but can be redirected with stern promps. As mentioned her new family will need to provide structure and guidance to continue working with her, to ensure she reaches her full potential!
