About Penelope

Penelope is a wonderful companion! She is 2 and a half years old. We have done the Embark DNA test and she is 50% German Shepherd, 25% Australian Shepherd, 25% Poodle. She's 35 lbs. When we rescued her, she was advertised as a Schnauzer mix, but shortly after getting settled we noticed traits that made us question her breed makeup. We were really surprised to find out her breed makeup, but it certainly answered our behavior questions. She is a working dog, through and through! She is eager to learn, very loyal, and sweet and very smart. She loves to retrieve, and any other activities that make her feel like she is working for you. We have trained her to not get on any furniture, even when we are not home. She has never had an accident in the house, and never chewed anything up. She also is very quiet, and almost never barks, not even when someone rings the doorbell. She does great with other dogs, but is apprehensive at first. She will sometimes huff and puff when on the leash walking past other dogs that she doesn't know, but is excited to see dogs that she does know. She is very very passive and would never go after another dog, it is all show. Our issue is that we do not have the land for her to work and be outside all day. She would thrive on more land where she could be outside more of the day. If we had known her breed makeup we would have not brought her into our living situation... she deserves a farm or land where she can follow her person all day and have more purpose and work to do. We've become very attached to Penelope, (Pen) but know she would be happier in an environment that is suited for a working dog.
