Rajah has been a beloved member of our family since we got her as a kitten. We were told she is a Maine Coon, but we have no papers to verify that; she seems to have all the physical characteristics though. A recent incident has forced us to find her a new home; we are heartbroken. Two of our kids came in contact with a stray outdoor cat in our front yard and immediately came inside and let Rajah smell their hands. A switch flipped; she became extremely aggressive with our two boys (not the other four of us in the house) and it is not safe for them. We have tried the rehab methods suggested by our vet along with reintroducing her to the boys multiple times, and each time, she has reverted to fear and aggression with them after a few minutes. We don't want a shelter to put her down, as she has been such a great pet, and so this is our attempt to find her a good home. She has bitten before in play, but I don't think ever with intent to hurt. Rajah is so fun to watch; she chirps anytime anyone sneezes/coughs/gasps; she 'hunts' birds at the window; she greets us at the door when we get home and comes to say good morning. She is playful, loves her cat tower and collecting piles of bugs that she finds. She is a beautiful, impossibly soft creature, and we want her to find a home where she will be loved and well cared for. She was due for a vet check up - had planned to take her in January, so she may need some updated vaccinations. I selected good with adults but not kids because of what happened, but did want to say that up until this incident, she was wonderful with our kids and they adored her. I selected good w/ dogs because she co-exists well with our mini-aussie; if our dog annoys her, she lets her know, but they've never fought. She is indoor only. The last thing I would say, is I have no idea how she will handle a transition to a knew home and people. Someone with patience and experience with cats is essential; even though her aggression has been targeted to my two boys, we've been extra careful with her as she still seems on edge, as though she is looking for the cat she smelled on my boys.
