About Harvey

Adoption Fee: $50
Lab / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Harvey is a rescue from Texas. We adopted him when we lived in Washington state and named him Harvey, and a couple months after we got him, hurricane Harvey hit the town where he was sheltered, which was an odd coincidence. Harvey is not a hurricane though, he is a sweet dog with a fairly mild temperament. He aims to please his humans, and he absolutely wishes to snuggle with us any chance he gets. Harvey does have fear based aggression towards other dogs. He gets along fine with his dog roommate, as he's known her since he came home to live with us, but he does not get along with other dogs, possibly due to trauma suffered at the shelter from where he came, which was severely overcrowded. We have introduced him to other dogs, while using extreme caution (muzzle, leash), and it went ok, but he definitely should go to a one dog home. He gets along with our cats just fine, although our two dogs together have given them chase in the rare instance the cats have been outside. They seem to behave worse together though than on their own, so I feel like Harvey would do fine in a house with cats as long as there are no other dogs. We have a toddler and two teen children, and he gets along with them fine, although I sense the toddler makes him nervous so I keep them separated. We need to find Harvey a new home as we do not have the time to give him the attention and training that he needs, and we will be taking my mother in law into our home shortly, who has dementia, and I worry that she may accidentally let him outside or into an area where is is not allowed. I also know he will get even less attention when she is here. Harvey would do wonderfully with an adult or two who have no or older children and no other dogs. He loves to run, so a home with lots of room to run would be a bonus. He definitely wants to be an indoor dog, but is ok outside for stretches of time. He must have a fenced yard to keep him from other dogs, and he must be controlled when being walked. We walk him with a muzzle as we live where dogs end up roaming free without their owners. He is crate trained, and he sleeps in his crate at night, but I know he would love to sleep in a bed with his human if allowed. Harvey will come with his crate if the person who adopts him wants it, and he will be up to date on his shots. Please find it in your heart to adopt this sweet boy.
