About Beanie

ADOPTER NEEDED ASAP Meet Miss Beanie, a very sweet and loving lady whose aspiration in life is to be a lap dog! This cutie-patootie is 5-years old, weighs 63 pounds, and is currently being fostered in Methuen, MA. We think she may be a mix of Rottweiler and Pitbull, but we do know for sure that she is 100% cuddle bug. For all the folks who say 'I don't have time for a dog,' Beanie is your match! Beanie loves being near her person, and feels it her duty to be a good snuggler! If you are looking for someone to cuddle with on the couch during these first months of the year, Beanie is your girl. Beanie is wonderful with humans. She is the perfect homebody companion. Beanie is responsive to direction: she is experienced with basic commands such as sit, stay, come, and down. Beanie does well meeting new people, and she is working on her tendency to be jumpy with excitement, so children 10+ are recommended, to avoid being knocked over. Beanie is a low maintenance dog. She recently learned to use a treadmill, and is loving the freedom to exercise inside when it's bitter outside! Beanie also loves to play fetch with all toys, and enjoys working her brain with the 'drop it' command. Beanie is serious about those toys- she tosses them in the air and catches them herself - so don't expect those soft plushies to last long! At mealtimes, Beanie sits and stays until given the 'ok.' She has no food aggression and is not a beggar. Beanie's manners don't stop at meal time: she is reliable when left alone, and only chews on toys, so an adopter can feel confident they'll come back to an intact home. When she feels like relaxing, Beanie searches for a nice sunny spot and rests there for hours. Beanie loves being outside, so a home with a fenced-in yard would be a perk - but not a requirement. Beanie also enjoys walking, and is making noteworthy strides in training. With the help of a trainer and a slip lead, Beanie is working on her leash manners and tendency to pull. Other areas of training include taking direction, working on ignoring outside influences, and staying focused on her handler. Beanie's work centers around walking past other dogs with confidence. She had been very fearful, but her reactivity toward strange dogs is improving. Any adopter will be expected to continue this work with a trainer. The rescue can provide recommendations on trainers in different areas of New England who specialize in management of reactivity. In her past, Beanie was bounced around from home to home. Three months ago Beanie transferred from shelter life to a foster home where she is thriving! At this time, due to her unstable past, Beanie needs to be the only pet in the home, however in return for being your one and only furkid, she'll reward you with affection and devotion. Beanie is a wonderful girl full of life. She is looking forward to spending the rest of her years with a family who will continue to work with her to become the confident and secure dog we know Beanie can be.
