Big, goofy puppy alert! Wally, a young male hound mix, is available for adoption. Wally is approximately 9 months old and 60lbs. He is UTD on vaccinations and preventatives, but does need to be neutered (vet recommended waiting until after a yr old due to his size). Wally is from the South and has been with a foster since he was a few weeks old. Wally has gone through professional training, learning basic commands like; sit, down, go to your spot, break, and off. Wally, being a hound, may always struggle a bit with recall, but generally comes when called (all bets are off when he's hot on the trail, so continued work will be needed if you want his recall to be perfect). Wally is a hound to his core, so he would love an owner with a big fenced yard or maybe someone who can train him to go hunting with them. No apartments please - Wally has a magnificent hound howl that will get you in trouble in apartments/townhomes, even if he doesn't use it too often. Because he's a hound, Wally cannot be trusted with small animals (no cats, bunnies, etc). Wally lives with two kiddos, ages 5 and 7, but he's big, bouncy, and silly, so it is not recommended that he be around very small children until he grows out of his puppy stage. Wally also lives with three other dogs! With his pack, he is playful and affectionate. Wally has no resource guarding issues. He falls squarely in the middle of the pack, even if he does test the hierarchy sometimes. No first time dog owners please. Wally's energy and confidence issues require a firm leader. Wally still has 'stranger danger' and is sometimes reactive with certain dogs. This makes him unpredictable on leashed walks. Continued training and socialization will be key. He is trained to walk with a weighted backpack and gentle leader. He walks nicely on leash when rewarded for 'with me' commands (I have a pocket full of treats with me when we walk). We take several breaks on walks to allow for lots of loose-leash sniffing. Day camp twice a week was also suggested by his trainer to help with socialization. Wally is crate trained, house trained, and is non-destructive (can be free-roaming for hours alone with no issues). Wally likes fetch and loves chomping on bones. We also plan to start training Wally to walk on the treadmill to burn some energy - he's so smart! Wally may have some puppy behaviors that need work, but he has come so far and is the sweetest darling you'll ever meet. His big ears are so floppy and soft! He loves to cuddle, loves our kids, and is great with our pack of dogs. We love him dearly, and know you will too! If you're the right 'forever person' for Wally, please apply!
