Max is an AKC registered Miniature American Eskimo dog with a champion pedigree; age 3yrs 3 mos. I have been with Max almost every day (I'm retired) since January 2020, just as the Covid pandemic hit. So he has been well loved and cared for, though he didn't have much training and socialization in that first year. I have trained him on basic commands and he is housebroken. He also spent a week at a training facility last fall. I am reluctantly rehoming him because I now have some health limitations, and I have an older Eskie female, Mia, and they don't get along. I have tried in many ways to improve this situation, but it's not working, and the toll on Mia and me is no longer acceptable. It hurts to let him go, but if I find the right place and the right people, it's for the best. Max has frequently been to dog parks, occasional day care and boarding, and is accustomed to dog walkers. He has not been around children, though he has greeted them at parks and stores etc. Due to his skittish nature, especially if there is sudden movement toward him, he can bark loudly, making him appear intimidating. He has never bitten anyone. Trainers and I have agreed, this behavior seems due to an insecure rather than aggressive nature. So I ask people and kids especially, to not approach him or put their hands near him. Once he warms up to them, he will approach them and be calm. I am told he is fine with others when I'm not around, likely because American Eskimo dogs are very protective of their owners, and in Max's case, he's a 'mama's boy.' He wants to be wherever I am, he 'guards my slippers' with a passion, and is very cuddly with me. I will surely miss him. Max has medium energy, likes to be brushed, eats well, and likes his toys. He is possessive of his treats and toys and will growl if he feels they are threatened. He responds best to a soft voice and reassurance. He has the sweetest face and hilarious vocalizations. He has always had regular vet check ups, vaccinations, and monthly flea, tick, and heartworm medication. I will only let Max go if I find right person(s) with the right setup/environment. That means an experienced dog owner, preferably with the American Eskimo breed, with plenty of room for him to be active, and with the desire and ability give him the care and love that he and every dog deserves. Thank you.
