About Simba

Saint Bernard
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Rochester, MN 55902, Simba. 6 year old Saint Bernard - fully vetted/neutered needs a new experienced home. Has spent months with Brian (a wonderful dog trainer) and living in his home with his daughter and other pets. Simba was the dog in California that was on the kill list. He was brought into a home in MN, but he and their other male dog didnt get along. The foster family spent their own money getting Simba the evaluation and training he needed to be a good citizen. Simba is now looking for an experienced forever home that will continue with the care and love and exercise etc. Below are some before and after photos. HERE IS HIS DETAILED BIO WRITTEN BY HIS FOSTER MOM: Age: ~6 years Weight: ~100lbs (working on the last 20-30 to get him up to a good weight for his size!) Location: Rochester, MN Please read the whole post, we're looking for a specific match for this lovable guy. Simba has blossomed into a teddy bear of a dog. He started out with a significant case of fear aggression and resource guarding in the form of attention from his people -) (about a week into having him) this led to tussle that ended with our own Saint getting bit by him. Unfortunately, this started to change the temperament of our dog and affect his performance as my mom's service dog. It was difficult to assess what Simba needed because we had little to no history on him and I didn't want to give up on a dog who had an unfortunate label of a bite history. Even though we can't keep him, I wanted to give him the best chance at finding his forever family. Over the last 2.5 months Simba has been working with our trainer and staying at his farm where he's been exposed to and interacted with 5-10 dogs daily, worked on leash commands, trail walks, and plenty of play time learning how to be a dog and to trust people again. He's been in dog-friendly businesses such as Home Depot and Scheels and does well around crowds of people with a confident owner. We've taken him to our vet boarding facility multiple times to get him used to short stays and socialization through daycare playtime with other dogs. The staff gave him the nickname 'teddy bear' for how lovable he's been. He's a *great* eater. He knows when it's breakfast and dinner time and will sit and wait for his food until you put his bowl down. He's a great car rider! He loves jumping in and out of our SUVs and does it with confidence! We've covered all of his expenses to get him up to date on all of his necessary health requirements (shots, flea/tick and heartworm meds and anything else that may arise) I mentioned to Dawn that he is a completely different dog since saving him from the shelter all the way in California. His aggression is gone, he is interested and happy to meet other dogs, and he runs and plays like he's 2 years old. **Who we're looking for: An experienced large breed owner, preferably a single person or a couple with no other dogs. Simba needs someone to bond with and to be his people. Someone who is committed to continuing his success with socialization, an active lifestyle, and training. Must be an inside dog and be willing to let him free roam the house - he's lived his life enough in a cage and is calm enough/housebroken to be trusted inside. %9D%8F We would love to see him stay local (at least somewhere in Minnesota) we've come to love him so much and would be so happy to be able to see him now and then. Obviously willing to travel for the right family. Sharing some favorite pictures and will take a few videos when I see him again in a few days. He runs around the yard like he's finally enjoying life.
