About Rusty

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Rusty is a difficult dog. He is aggressive with unfamiliar dogs and people. Once he gets to know a dog or person he is ok, but can still lash out unpredictably. I have been rehabilitating him since I adopted him in 2020 and he has come a long way, but I am very tired and wondering if someone would be interested in taking over. He isn't that high energy and we currently live in an apartment, but I'm sure he would be happier with a yard. He has been on 20mg of fluoxetine daily for almost 2 years. He is rarely aggressive with me anymore but unfamiliar people cannot be allowed to pet him. Here is what we have worked on: -Cooperative care for nail clipping, brushing, ear cleaning -Crate trained -Housebroken -Loose leash walking -Can walk past other dogs as long as they ignore him (if they bark or approach him he will react) -Can walk past other people, not afraid of skateboards, motorcycles, etc. -Basic obedience such as leave it, drop it, sit, stay etc. -Great recall but I never let him off leash because of his aggression -Off leash heel -Muzzle trained -Tons of cute tricks like roll over, high five, etc. I have used R+ only with him until now. I recently purchased an E collar to try to deal with his reactivity to other dogs, but I'm having trouble getting him used to the collar and I just want to give up. If there is anyone out there who loves cattle dogs and has space for an animal with special needs, please let me know. I would be willing to travel a great distance to get him to a good home.
