About Lila Jean

American Staffordshire Terrier / Lab
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Lila is a spitfire with a lot of energy. She loves wrestling, playing with toys, walks, water'|anything active. She will do best in a home that is very active and has fur siblings that have Beta personalities and don't mind an annoying, energetic younger sibling. Homes with older children would be best as she is still learning personal space with people and other dogs and loves to jump, give kisses and nibble on feet. She is still young, estimated to be 1-2yrs so she still has quite a bit of 'puppy' energy and socializing skills to learn. The only background info I have is that she was abandoned or dumped, and she stumbled across a kind person to foster her. Lila is a very sweet girl who just wants to play, cuddle and give kisses. She will need a family who can keep up with her energy level and willing to continue working on her with socializing and learning how to harness her anxiety and energy. She is an early riser who is ready to play! She spends her days playing with other dogs of her size but her best friend is a Beta personality dog, Duke who has learned to play with toys with her and doesn't mind her jumping on him and trying to wrestle and play. She is too much energy for smaller dogs so its best she does not play with them as she can get a little bossy and little personalities don't really like that too much. No small animals (cats, bunnies, etc.) as her prey drive is high. She needs a fur sibling who can handle her energy level and doesn't have boundary issues or minds a bossy little lady. She loves to go on walks (I HIGHLY recommend them), play in the water'|watering the grass is her favorite time of the day, play outside (she spends most of her day running around the back yard and will need a physical fence if left unattended). She loves to play tug o war with anything you have and be careful with shoes as you may lose a good pair if not careful'|she is quick. She has a very alpha personality and will insert herself to help discipline others which is not always well received by my alpha group. She is learning personal space with people and other animals, so she is often quick to jump in your lap/face and cover you with kisses and likes to nibble at your feet as you walk. She is still learning socializing and is doing well with being told 'no, leave it and come'. She is doing well with 'sitting and staying' but still gets a little anxious and excited. I currently have her on daily calming chews in conjunction with a calming collar. Even though she is anxious, she does well with not chewing things (except for a loose shoe) and mainly sticks to her toy. Potty pads will become shredded if she gets bored. She does well with holding her potty for around 6-8 hours but may have an accident if left too long. She is doing well with listening when told to come inside and take a break and will sit down and cuddle with you. We are currently working with getting her to still stay seated as I get up and move about the house. Once you get up and go she is quite the shadow and will be at your heels wherever you go around the house. She does well on walks, but will pull a little initially. If you work with her on walking along side you, she quickly learns to relax and enjoy the walk and will start to relax and give you control. https://www.vermontenglishbulldogrescue.com/non-bulldog-application/
