POOR, KID, CAT AND DOG FRIENDLY 10 yr old SMOKEY HAS BEEN THROUGH THE RINGER AND NOW IS SCHEDULED TO BE KILLED AT STOCKTON SHELTER FOR SPACE on 8/4. PLEASE HELP US FIND A FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. WE NEED A FOSTER WHO IS NEAR A WILLING RESCUE, SO PREFERABLY N CAL! ID A315328 This poor dog has been thru the ringer. It is easy to see the years of neglect when looking into his soft, booger filled eyes. And it's devastating to think his life could end here, alone in an overcrowded shelter. The Stockton shelter tells us some back story on our boy‰'Û| he came from a home with a unstable son who was said to be on drugs and had been hitting and kicking the poor dog on multiple occurrences . Smokey understandably finally bit the person in defense. Even the neighbor reported seeing the bite as being provoked. The shelter does not hold the bite against him as Smokey is friendly dog, but the shelter is overfull and he needs to exit by 8/4. Please note this is a great dog, even the owner reported to the shelter 'Smokey has never shown aggression before. Good with cats. Was not seeking medical care for skin issue, was not sure if she could afford medical treatment for the skin but has never tried taking the dog. Neighbor told her the son was hitting the dog and then the dog bit him. He is awesome with cats, good with the german shep female they used to have. Smokey hates dry food apparently it irritates his skin. Good with kids. Smokey is potty trained, papered.' Unfortunately, however, as wonderful as Smokey is, he was not in a wonderful home. Much of the fur is missing from his back and tail. We have some interest from a rescue group who would like to save him, but they would need a foster home or permanent home (preferably N Cal). The rescue would help with any reasonable medical needed. He needs his itchy skin treated, his goopy eyes and perhaps some meds for a little age related arthritis. More pictures and videos are available here: Smokey was also tested with a male dog and mostly just ignored him. He is not available to adopt directly from shelter, he is Rescue only. Therefore, if you are interested in helping or fostering, or fostering to adopt, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with his placement before he is killed.
