About Zachary

Zachary is a 2 year old male located in Lawrence, MA. He has an infectious smile and inquisitive golden eyes that actually sparkle when he looks at you. He is so unique in personality and appearance. (https://ediesplan.com/) Zach completed a board-and-train course at Five Rings in Hanson, MA to ready himself for the next chapter in life. He is active, but he also enjoys down time. He is working on curbing his enthusiastic greetings, aka Zach Attacks, of jumping up to hug people. Since Zachary is part coonhound and coons are known to be late bloomers, he asks for your patience as he is still maturing. At times, Zachary is like a four-month old puppy in an adolescent body. On the bright side he's past the potty-training, crate-training, and teething stages and eager to learn more from a calm, confident owner as his guide. Still a handful of energy, Zach is most suited for an active single or couple with large dog experience, and preferably hound dog experience as well. A calm adult-only home would really be the best as he gets amped up quickly with loud and sudden commotion, screaming, or yelling. Previously he did well living with kids, so dog-savvy children ages 14+ may be possible. He currently lives with other dogs, and would do well with an active but balanced canine brother or sister to play with and learn from. Zachary is a dog that loves affection and activities of all kinds. He also loves just hanging with his people, cuddling on the couch or in his bed, and exploring the world that he is just now discovering but he doesn't need to do a lot of exploring. He is happy doing walks from home and getting comfortable with the same routine. That said, as an athletic dog he would be happy to accompany you on runs or participate in agility. On the other paw, he loves using his mind and learning new things! Though young and active, he also settles nicely. He does very well in his crate, respects baby gates, and sleeps through the night. He loves playing with toys and exploring the outdoors. And he can entertain himself in the fenced-in yard. Note! Zach actually requires a 6-ft or taller privacy fence because he is capable of leaping over anything shorter than that. Full disclosure, as a hound, he has the genes for being a flight risk and escape artist! Background: Zachary was kept in his crate most of his short life. He lived with small children, a cat, and another dog in a very small apartment. He had little socialization outside the home and is continuing to build his confidence and learn the outside world. Therefore, he needs to continue the structure and consistency that his foster and trainer have provided. He is learning to walk well on leash and not focus so much on passing cars, motorcycles, people and dogs. He is getting better every day. His adopter will have to continue this so he doesn't fall back to his early start as a frightened dog with little confidence.
