About Murtagh

MURTAGH'S IDEAL FOREVER HOME: Murtagh needs a person who is calm, patient, quiet, and breed-knowledgeable. He needs someone who is home often. He's a lover and very affectionate. He needs his person often and prefers women, but might do well with the right male personality. He would enjoy a big, secure yard and / or frequent long walks to burn his energy. PERSONALITY & BEHAVIORS - Murtagh can be anxious and has separation anxiety (Barks, howls / cries, paces, pees) when his person isn't near - Murtagh loves to play ball fetch, belly rubs, snuggling with his person, nice petting. - He thrives on love, TLC and positive reinforcement. - He enjoys sleeping on the humans bed. - He bonds quickly to his person and can be protective of his person if he thinks it's needed. - Probably best in an only dog home, unless closely watched and kept separately during times he's not being supervised or paid attention to - Food, toy, people, kennel/bed guarding. - Very sensitive to negative or intense energy, loud and strange noises, people/children arguing, playing around/rough housing - He is curious and will try to steal people food if not watched. - Can occasionally grow 'springs' on his feet (can jump on the couch and beds) SOCIALIZATION - Cats and other home pets - unknown, not yet tested. - Has not chased, or acted adversely to wildlife and other dogs while on leashed walks - Not interested in playing with other dogs in the home or having them in his space - May be okay with older children (12+), with supervision and proper dog care / behavior instruction (Do not allow children or new people to hug around his neck or grab) TRAINING - Understands his name if pronounced properly - Understands some basic cues - In progress - potty training on leash. - Learning to understand 'go potty', he's picking up on it with positive reinforcement and small treats when he does his business. - Will still aim and pee outside his kennel when he's mad or NEEDS TO GO and cannot hold it any longer. - He does get fearful and needs to be walked in a well fitting harness as he is still a flight risk. He will pull out of a collar (even a tight one) and bolt. - Needs to be on a well gripped leash at all times when outside the home.
