Introducing pretty Shyla! She is a 6 year old, 17.6 pound Bichon who was owner surrendered to us. She came in timid and scared and it took her a little bit to open up and trust. Her foster mom says she has really come a long way! She used to hide or run from attention, but now if you sit down she will come to you for pets. She really is a sweetheart and will let you pick her up and hold her, and she will give you sweet kisses in return! She sits by her person's chair and holds onto their arm and closes her eyes in complete happiness when she gets petted. Shyla is calm and quiet. She tends to stay back and watch new people until they are sitting and settled, then she will approach when she's comfortable. Shyla must have other dogs in her home. She learns to 'dog' from them and copies their behavior. Her foster mom says it was her dog who basically potty trained her! So a home with at least one other small dog is a must. She is doing very well with her house breaking where she was not housebroken at all when she first came in. Now she will go outside or use a potty pad if she can't go out for potty time. Shyla is not a fan of wearing a harness/collar but once you get it on her she loves going for walks. She will play with toys on her own, but is not pushy about playing with another dog. We have not had her around cats since she has been with us. Her foster mom thinks she would be okay with older kids. At night she sleeps on a doggy bed in the bedroom. Shyla has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Her spay and a dental will be scheduled at one of our vets soon and are covered by the rescue.
