Maya was enjoying her retirement with her best friends, Gunner (German Shepherd) and Rich (human and provider of all of life's pleasures). Life was grand; a pool in which to swim, free food, endless belly rubs, lush grass to roll around, a cohort who helped her chase away all the lizards from their porch. Everything a pup could ever want; in other words, a doggy heaven! That is, until one day, Rich did not come home. She kept waiting and waiting for her human, but her human would never again return. Rich suffered a heart attack on 5/1 which sadly and prematurely ended his life. With no family, Maya and Gunner were left without anyone to take care of them. A kind neighbor looked after the 2 pups until Gunner was rehomed a few weeks ago, leaving Maya utterly alone in an empty house full of sad memories and ghosts of a life she once knew. You could hear Maya's devastating cries down the street as she spent her nights alone, wondering why everyone has abandoned her. The kind neighbor still cares for Maya but cannot keep this up long term and the home will soon be foreclosed on by the bank. Worst of all, FPL has now shut off power to the house, leaving poor Maya without any A/C in the middle of a sweltering Florida summer. With the clock ticking ever faster, Maya urgently needs a loving family. Maya is a 9-year-old 'possible' shepherd/cur/puggle mix, weighing in at about 40lb. She comes spayed, vaccinated, and vetted. Maya loves and was raised with dogs and cats; however, takes a bit of warming up to her human handlers. A little time and patience will go a long way to befriend this pup and she will return in kind, with all her heart. Maya is house trained, walks great by your side (no leash needed), does NOT chew your stuff, does NOT excessively bark, does NOT dig in your yard, and knows basic commands. Maya is a senior dog and is content to lay in a comfy spot just snoozing the afternoons away next to her human. She has a very mellow demeanor, but still loves to swim and passionately enjoys her tennis balls. She would make a great companion for a retired couple or a veteran looking for a walking buddy on calm morning strolls. Home checks are required. Please do not contact if you are not willing to allow a home visit. Maya is located in Broward County, FL. We are willing to travel in and out of state for the right adopter.
