Sunny is a 10-year-old blind miniature Schnauzer who was picked up wandering the streets, by the Ft. Pierce Humane Society last December. Her hair was completely over-grown and matted so badly, that she had to be shaved in order to see what type of dog she actually was. One of the personnel at the FPHS related to us that her hair was so thick that it was cutting off her circulation! She was under-weight -- due to this she has some food aggression and is snippy around food and releasing things she has picked up that she shouldn't.She also has to use a slow feeder because she will inhale her food if not. Despite all her obstacles, she has survived quite well. She has extremely dry eyes (possibly due to whatever caused her blindness) which require OTC lubricating eye drops.. We currently also have her on a small, once daily, calming prescription at this point in time -- as she was waking up in the mornings full of energy and incessantly walking around the house at a faster than normal gait for prolong periods of time. To that end, we obtained a HALO collar for her to protect her head and face when inside. After a few weeks of the medication, she is now doing fine without the collar when awake and up, moving around. She likes to be near someone -- and will follow one around, lay on the floor next to where one may be sitting (she will even sit with--but not beg to do so) if one wants. She now shares our home with us and one other foster as well as our own small dogs-- and even though they all get along okay, she basically doesn't really interact with the others. She will need some time to decompress from her past trauma -- and in the right environment, will thrive without the assistance of the current meds, in a short time. She sleeps in her own cage at night. Even with what all she has endured, she is in good overall health and is a loving little girl who is ready for her Forever home. Due to her issues children under 12 are not recommended. She will require some work in potty training as she was on her own for so long. It takes a special person for this girl --as she is very special. So, if you have a warm heart and a safe place as me the patience she needs with training, please apply to adopt her. https://www.goodkarmapetrescue.org/adopt-a-dog
