About Kya

Looking for an experienced dog owner to take on this sweet girl! Kya is a sweet, funny, goofy and affectionate girl who would make an amazing adventure buddy for anyone who leads an active life! The ball is her absolute favorite toy. She would do best in a home with adults (no children under 10), and either be the only dog in the home or be paired with a calmer male (no females). Lots of exercise is an absolute must for this girl due to her drive, breed, and high energy. She is very intelligent and understands (to varying degrees) lots of obedience commands such as: Sit, lay down, come, back, look at me, paw, leave it, wait, stay and break. She is also learning to walk without pulling, and does best on a prong collar. Kya is working through some occasional dog reactivity. She is usually very good around other dogs when on leash (wouldn't recommend having her off leash with other dogs unsupervised or without a remote collar). Kya can be a bit defensive of her home and her people when new people come for a visit. This behavior along with the reactivity is something that should be worked on with the help of a trainer. My husband and I are professional dog trainers who are helping a friend by rehoming Miss Kya. She is very intelligent and very responsive and does best with someone who will be firm but gentle. We would like to do some free training sessions with the new owner to help ensure that Kya has the best life possible in her new home. *Note: Kya is recovering from a surgery on her paw. She does not have any bandages or stitches anymore, but does still have to wear her cone until she is fully healed. She can go for walks on leash, but still has restrictions from running, jumping, or playing hard for the next couple of weeks. *Note: Kya is fearful when going to the vet or being held in a kennel (like in the shelter). It would be best to be boarded/sat in home when owner is out of town as opposed to a boarding facility and possibly have vet visits done in home. This girl is so worth the effort.
