About WESLEY

Meet Wesley! He is a 7 year old, 11.7 pound Maltese who was owner surrendered to us. Wesley is a sweet boy who can be shy at first first meet. Once he is comfortable with you though he is friendly and enjoys being petted. He likes everyone he meets. His foster mom says he soaks up attention and love with a wagging tail! Wesley is good with other small dogs and would be best in a home with another dog in it. He has not been around cats since he has been with us. He does greet children the same way he greets adults and would probably be okay in a home with older kids who are familiar with handling small dogs. Wesley was hesitant to walk on grass when he first came in, but now he and his foster sister love to explore and run and play together in the yard. He is not housebroken but his foster mom is working with him on this and he is doing well learning to use pads and going outside. Each day shows more improvement! Wesley is ok on a leash but definitely needs more work. He does get startled by loud noises but is reassured when his foster mom calmly lets him know everything is ok. For both of those reasons we are looking for a home with a fenced yard for him. Wesley is just learning how to use stairs and has mastered a doggy ramp to go in and outside. He is curious and likes exploring the house and yard, but does let his Foster sister take the lead on that. He rides in the car well, and has a good appetite. Wesley is a good natured little dog who is still learning how to be a pet, but he learns quickly and is eager for attention and affection. He has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. His neuter and a dental will be scheduled at one of our vets soon and are covered by the rescue. Because he has pending vet appointments Wesley is only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola.
