Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email [email protected]. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Toby, or not Toby, that is the question: The answer of course, is Toby! This 12 year old 30 pound dachshund mix came to us from one of our local shelter partners. Toby has been an absolute dream in his foster home. He lives with a big dogs, small dogs, and dog-savvy cats, and gets along great with all. He enjoys the fenced in yard, but also loves to go for walks. He's not a fan of bicycles or strollers, and gets nervous when there is too much activity around him out in the world, so the city life is not for him. Toby has allergies and some slight hair loss which are currently managed with a medicated shampoo (Chlorhexidine, $15 - $18) and a daily pill (Apoquel, around $1.25) A bi-monthly injection is also an option. He is a voracious eater and uses a slow-feeder bowl, but doesn't notice if you slip a pill in there. He is housebroken on a schedule, but will alert you if he needs to go out. He can be left with free roam of his foster's house, and hasn't had any accidents. He loves pets and ear rubs, but is content to nap most of the day and doesn't need to follow you from room to room all day. He does like to sleep in bed with his foster, and sleeps through the night.
