About Newt

Chihuahua mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR NEWT: KIDS 12 AND OVER ONLY. FULLY FENCED YARD. SHOTS FOR ALLERGIES. PATIENCE SINCE HE IS SHY WITH STRANGERS. 5 year old male Chihuahua/Terrier mix, about 12 pounds. Newt is formally Skye, born to Smidget Sonya at the rescue in 2017 and adopted out as a 4 month old puppy. Then surrendered back to us at 3 years old after becoming too protective of their newborn. Are you an introvert? Do you prefer to be with just the people in your own circle? You and Newt may be a match! Newt is great with his family. Newt is a true introvert and really doesn't even want to be looked at by strangers, because it makes him nervous. It seems EVERYONE wants to find a dog and easy, outgoing dog they can meet and pet right away. Not all people are like that, and it turns out, neither are dogs! Earning the trust of a fearful dog is WAY more rewarding! The upside? He can run in circles like no other. When Newt is excited, he runs clockwise in a circle (never counter-clockwise, despite our best effort to help him mix it up.) He's also very food motivated and will make sure he's near you in the kitchen when food is around. For this reason, he is also trainable and is responsive to learning. Right now, we know that he LOVES to play with other dogs and also loves his chin rubbed. He appears devoted to his humans and wants to be near you when he's comfortable. He wants to protect you and his turf and will demonstrate reactivity on leash and in the yard to those not in his family. We recommend no kids under 12. The little stinker also has allergies and needs to receive shots so that he doesn't get too itchy. Overall, he is a fun, energetic and loyal fellow! Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
