PLEASE READ INFORMATION AT THE END OF THE POST FOR ADOPTIONS----LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY Ok Dog Nation, we have a bit of a challenge here. Princess is a 7 year old, 13.8 pound Pomeranian who was owner surrendered due to her owner's illness. We want you to absolutely admire her adorable picture but please read on before you submit an application! Princess has not had an easy life. She has trust issues and she is a fear biter. The first several days in her new home will likely be spent hiding. She has an open door crate she retreats to when she is stressed, and she either sleeps in it or on the couch at night. She will let her foster mom pet her, but it is on her terms. If she does not want to be petted or take medication she will growl and try to nip/bite (she has never broken the skin). A little background: we were told that Princess was dumped out of a car at a gas station, the guy yelled 'her name is Princess' and drove off. Thankfully she was picked up and taken to safety. Then her last owner went down quickly health wise and wasn't able to care for her well. She was very alone and was picked on by the other dog that was in the home. She was never really brought outside to potty or play. So, Princess is scared and defensive and protective of her space. She needs a calm home with someone who can understand the mentality of a fear biter and who is willing to be patient and work with her. This will not be an overnight fix. She needs time and love and consistency in her life. Princess will approach you for pets with a wagging tail, although she may grumble when you reach for her. She really needs to do things at her pace. However during the fireworks in her foster mom's neighborhood she was right on her lap-so she will come to a human for comfort. She tolerates other dogs but if they get to rambunctious or close to her she cries out and growls. Another small laid-back older dog in the home would probably be fine, but she will not do well with young playful dogs. We have no clue how she would be with cats. She definitely should not go to a home with kids. Princess does not eat well, we still have not found a food she will eat regularly (this includes, chicken, kibble, wet food). She only wants snacks which we have limited for her. She walks perfectly on a leash and absolutely LOVES walks and being outside. She requires a fenced yard. If you head for the door she's right there wanting to go with you. She also LOVES car rides and will hop right up into the car. Both of those things are great bonding opportunities! Princess is mostly potty trained but if she is not able to get outside when she has to go, she will potty in the house. She has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, fecal tested, heartworm tested, and microchipped with a lifetime registration. Princess is heartworm positive and has been started on treatment which is covered by the rescue until she tests negative. There is no doubt that this is a beautiful little dog and she can be very sweet, when she wants to be. The right owner will make all the difference in her life!
