About Scout

Adoption Fee: $200
Lab mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Scout pka Harper, was adopted from our organization last year as a pup. She was one of a litter of bottle pups from Texas in which only 4 survived. Scout is an AMAZING dog and has lived the last 1.5ish years of her life knowing nothing but absolute love in her home. Unfortunately she had begun to show some over protective behavior and it just continued to escalate with yesterday her biting. Now she wasn't trying to attack anyone, I need to make that very clear. She was protecting her family and home from a threat who reached down to pet her. The response wasn't ok, however nothing has been done training wise to correct the issue. The owners have solely tried to manage the problem but not actually address it. They recognize this, but at this point they aren't willing to work with her and believe that rehoming is her best option. However in this situation we also believe that surrendering back to us is the best option as the family lives in the country on a working farm with a lot of activity and doesn't have a fence, so keeping her safe would be a continued issue even while training. I understand that this can be a concern, however Scout is an absolute doll of a dog. She loves other animals, dogs, carried the kitten around like her pup, is good with cows, pigs, adores children and sleeps in bed with her 8ish year old human brother who is devastated. Scout loves to cuddle on her couch watching TV, she loves family time and is actually a very content girl. She is working on her leash skills and with some more work would likely be a fantastic dog to take on hikes and walks. She's house and crate trained and knows basic obedience. She has also been working on not jumping when excited. Scout is truly a very sweet and gentle dog. She just needs some help in order to succeed, and truly who doesn't! We believe that her behavior is VERY correctable and we will pay for virtual training secessions with our favorite trainer in order to set Scout up for success. She just needs a foster or FURever home that is committed to seeing her succeed. If you think Scout may be a fit for your home please contact us ASAP! The kids are aware what's happening and heartbroken so we would like to place her as quickly as we can. https://petlover.petstablished.com/pets/public/733620?awo=High+Plains+PAW&widget=false
