PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO ABOUT HIS BEHAVIOR NEEDS BEFORE APPLYING! Meet Rocky, Champion of Good Looks! Rocky is a 7 years young, 14 lb, neutered, Bichon/Poodle mix who is a real eye catcher. He was surrendered to rescue when his family moved out of the country. Rocky lived with other dogs, but they were never properly trained and the family used belly bands instead of walking them. Rocky is now in a foster home and is being walked regularly and learning to do his business outside. However, Rocky needs someone willing to continue his training and not be bothered by some setbacks in his house training (especially in the beginning). This may also be something that is not completely trainable as he is a territorial marker and should wear a belly band inside to be sure he is not marking in your home. Although Rocky lived with other dogs, he is not interested in other dogs and can sometimes growl at some dogs and is ok with others. We feel he has been under-socialized and will bark at other dogs when on leash. He is not extreme with this behavior and is easily corrected. But for these reasons, we prefer to place Rocky in a home without other dogs so that he can have the one-on-one attention he deserves. He greatly enjoys his time outdoors and has done 6 mile hikes with ease. Rocky is not a dog who will immediately want to sit in your lap, but he will warm up to you quickly once you've gained his trust and he will bond strongly after a few days or so. It's best to let Rocky come to you with his attention in the beginning till he trusts you. And he will initiate love and attention from you. IMPORTANT: Rocky is territorial about his bed space and other guarding issues with anything in his space or anything he is laying on or near... he will growl if he feels invaded. He previously lived with children, but because of he guarding & growling, we do not want to place him with children who may not appreciate his need for space. Rocky needs an EXPERIENCED adopter that has experience with dogs that have guarding and fear issues. This is a behavior that will need a lot of TIME and PATIENTS to help him get over. Anyone interested needs to be in it for the LONG HAUL as it may take months before he starts to feel secure and for these behaviors to subside or lessen... and there most likely will be setbacks here and there. He would also benefit from behavior modification classes with his new adopter and our rescue is willing to help pay for these for the right adotper. Rocky rides well in the car. He is a smart dog and he knows 'sit, stop and wait.' We're sure he would love to learn more things, so if you're into training, he'd be a great student. If you are not willing to take him outside for long walks twice daily with additional potty breaks in between, please don't apply as this will not be the dog for you and having a fenced-in yard does not equal having regular walks.
