Teddy Bear is a male ShihTzu, 12 years old and weighs 13 pounds. He is a special needs senior who is blind, deaf, no teeth and needs twice daily eye drops. He arrived at Pathways as an owner surrender. He is eager to find his forever home where he will be loved, respected and his special medical needs will be attended to. He is pee pad trained and will need patience to adjust to his new environment due to his physical disabilities. Teddy Bear will need regular vet care and special attention because he is blind (might see shadows) and mostly deaf. Additionally, he doesn't have any teeth so would require a diet appropriate for him. He will be your lap pet and enjoy your company while you view the TV programs. He is a senior, with love to share and he needs a new family who understands how to care for him. He would do great with another canine friend in a slightly active home. He would do well with older, retired adults. His ideal home would not have stairs because he cannot navigate those at all. Teddy Bear must haves: 1. Love, respect, timely vet care and a new owner who can help him age with grace. 2. A respectful family who, if they place Teddy Bear on the couch, they will have to be by his side, because he cannot navigate getting off furniture due to his blindness. 3. A new owner who understands the importance of special needs in an aging senior dog, and who will approach Teddy Bear very slow, with caution and use the 'warm hand' approach so he feels your energy present before you pick him up or try to touch him. He also expects you to tap your foot as you get closer to him so he knows you are near. Teddy Bear is altered, vaccinated, has had his rabies shots, microchipped, and will go to his new home with a collar, harness and leash.
