About Champ

Champ is located in TEXAS. He is available for local adoption or adoption and transport to another state. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down there, so he is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home. Champ came from a small town, dog pound. He looks like a husky/shepherd mix but a breed rescue informed us that he is an Australian Kelpie - a herding breed similar to a border collie. Champ is around 1 year of age and weighs 52 pounds. Champ is a good boy and he is very sweet and loving. He is active and loves to run and play. Champ is very smart, treat motivated, and learned to sit in about 5 minutes. He could use additional obedience training with someone that is firm, patient, and loving. Champ is very sweet and loves being petted. He gets attached to his human and sits quietly on the floor playing with a toy when I work on the computer. He likes to sit next to you and cuddle between play sessions in the yard. He loves his jumbler ball and likes to toss his toys around when he plays with them. He is good with other dogs and loves playing with them. He has learned dog manners, but he can still play a bit rough on occasion. Champ is crate trained and stays in his crate when we leave on errands and sleeps in his crate at night. He will whine when he needs out for a drink or go potty. Housetraining is a work in progress and will be easier in a new home. Here, he thinks it is okay to go inside since all the little dogs do it. Champ is fairly well-behaved in the house. He doesn't chew on anything but he likes to counter surf if something good is available. Cats and squirrels are kryptonite and he will easily jump a 4' fence for the chase. So he must have a secure 6' high fenced yard. A training collar also works well, and he will quickly come home when wearing one. Wireless fences are also acceptable as long as he is never left outside unattended. Champ walks well on a leash and rides well in the car. He must be in the house as a loved member of the family. Champ is healthy. He is neutered, fully vaccinated (DAPPvL2, Bordetella, rabies), and microchipped. He is negative for heartworms and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Champ has a $200.00 local adoption fee. His out-of-state adoption fee is $500.00 and includes ground transport to the northeast, pacific northwest, or Canada. He is being fostered in Texas and we do not have the resources to send him north until after he is adopted.
