About Bea

Adoption Fee: $320
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Bea is an adorable Australian Shepherd mix, about one-year-old and around 50 pounds. She was found as a stray, emaciated, and matted taking care of her babies under a barn. Bea is currently being fostered in Waynesboro, VA. She was very wary in the beginning but over the weeks she has truly blossomed into an amazing dog. Bea is currently learning what it means to live the life of a very spoiled dog. She is a happy, sweet, sassy, funny, fluffy lovebug of a dog with puppy energy. She loves attention, head scratches, belly rubs, and she loves to chase and to be chased. When she gets excited, she grabs the nearest toy, sock, bowl, whatever she can find and shows you. Bea gets along with all four of her foster siblings (dogs). She would do well in a household with another active dog that can play with her and show her the ropes of what it means to be a dog. Bea needs a savvy dog owner, one who can be patient with her. She can initially be reserved and shy around new people, especially men, but warms up fast around women. She is a total sweetheart with them. Bea doesn't easily trust men. We aren't sure what her background is with men, but because of her apprehension of them, she would do well in a home with mainly women. It is recommended that Bea does training to help with her fear of men, as Bea is not aggressive at all towards them, just very apprehensive and it is something that could be worked on. Her foster dad has been very patient with her and so far after a month, she gets a little excited to see him when he comes home. She used to ignore him or just watch him as he went about his day. She is still unsure about him, but she gets better and better every day. Bea has not shown any aggression with toys, food, other dogs, or people. Bea has not been tested with cats. She is working on wearing a harness and being outside of the house and yard without being afraid. She is a very curious dog who seems to be experiencing a lot of things for the first time. With proper training and socialization, Bea can be brought out of her shell more to enjoy the world. She is potty trained and is learning basic commands. Bea is not crate trained and it is not recommended for her. When she was caught, she had broken several teeth as she was frantic. Bea is in a gated room when her foster parents are not home. Due to the fact that she was a stray she will need a fenced yard. Bea will be spayed September 29th and she will have some cracked teeth pulled as well. She will be available to adopt after.
