About Maggie

Maggie is a BEAUTIFUL gentle giant who is affectionate, bright and playful. She is a 1- 1 1/2 yr. old Great Pyrenees Mix needing a good home due to abandonment. She has been in a foster pet home for two months now and knows all that a good pet dog should. She is house trained, calm, loving and obedient when indoors. She is fun in backyard and loves to chase a stick and zoom around and play chase. She walks on a leash nicely but needs a strong owner as she sometimes pulls on the leash when she is feeling extra energetic (but she instantly responds when corrected). She seems interested in playing with other dogs and is good with our 3 cats and 2 rats. Though it is unknown how she may do living with another dog, she clearly gets excited around other dogs and seems to want to play. A large male dog would likely be a good fit and would probably become a great play buddy. She loves to be groomed/brushed. She has been friendly with visitors to our home as well as meeting people on our walks. She is extremely bright and is a quick study. In 3 days-time she mastered how to sit and lie down. She's learned 'walkies', 'treats', and knows what 'go potty' means. She has learned the 'stay' command though she needs some additional work with this command. Her absolute favorite is to go for car rides. All that said, she is an opportunist around unwatched food - but only if you leave the room. She won't do anything naughty in front of you as she's too smart for that! PACA does a meet and greet with any potential adopter's pets to see how Maggie will do. She would be a good fit for a work from home adult/couple that are somewhat active and whom are looking for a new member of the family as Maggie will want to be inside with her owners most of the time (also summers outside in Albuquerque are way too hot for her!). She is used to two brisk 30-minute walks per day, morning and evening, plus play time.
