This fluffy Old English Sheepdog is decent on a leash and is house trained as long as he is taken out often. He doesn't mind his crate once he is in it, though getting him to go in can be a bit like trying to convince a cat to take a bath. Even though he isn't noisy, his brain always seems to be going and he struggles to relax and just sleep at times. Ambrosius does pretty well with other dogs, though he doesn't have a lot of grace or know how to be gentle with ones that need it. He is submissive with them (even the teeny tiny ones) when he first meets them. He does struggle a bit when it comes to food and bones. He can be a bit selfish as he is insecure and is afraid another dog will take them from him. Ambrosius is the type of dog that will jump out of his own skin if he hears a loud noise. Ever seen the cartoon where the big dog is in a person's arms while a tiny mouse runs around the room? Well... that is 50 pound Ambrosius. He is the definition of high anxiety and will need an extremely patient person who will push him to face his fears. His person needs to be the type that understands his issues and is confident in positive reinforcement, where they are consistent, and he can trust to take their lead. Because we believe Ambrosius to be a puppy mill or backyard breeder survivor, we will require a physical fence for him in an area that isn't overly busy or loud. He will also need to have another dog in his home who is not anxious, does not have any aggressive tendencies, and is well balanced to show him the way so he doesn't follow the wrong thing. Ambrosius would be fine around children, but living with small children that are loud and fast moving could be more than he can handle. Most likely, Ambrosius is going to need the help of a trainer. This is not just for him, but for his person too, to understand and help him along the way. He may bloom into a wonderfully adjusted dog, but he may also struggle with his past and change will happen slowly.
