About COBY *URGENT*

German Shepherd
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Coby at East Valley Animal Shelter has until Thursday. Based on the data, Coby's chances are slim. He's a German Shepherd in a shelter system full of them. He is a senior at 10 years old (though reportedly in good shape). And he has a bite on his record (nevermind that a child startled him while he was sleeping). Shepherds are a commodity at shelters right now. As such, they are commoditized, which is very close to being 'disposable.' We just lost Prichard today at East Valley. Please let's give Coby a fighting chance. Coby: #A1471467 'Let sleeping dogs lie' was derived from the long-standing observation that dogs are often unpredictable when they are suddenly disturbed. Hell, I'll bet that most people, if awakened from sleep or startled by something unexpected, might react unpredictably. I know I would. And so did 10-year-old COBY (ID #A1471467). COBY was surrendered to the East Valley Animal Shelter, Van Nuys, CA, on June 1. His owner stated, at intake, that 'the dog [Coby] was lying down possibly sleeping when the baby (21 months old) came up to the dog.' And, sadly, that disturbance caused COBY to bite the toddler. Where were the adults? COBY lived with the family for 10 years, without apparent issues. The Dog Interview, which the owner filled out, depicts COBY as *Friendly/outgoing around strangers;' 'Relaxed/playful/respectful with children;' among other positive checked boxes. After spending time with COBY, I concur with the positive assertions. He is a gentle, calm, affectionate dog, who would likely not be in such a predicament if adults in the home had been more vigilant when the toddler was around. COBY's life is on the line, and he is Rescue-Only. Hopefully, a rescue will be inclined to give this senior a chance to live out his life in comfort and with someone who knows to let sleeping dogs lie.
