Buddy is a male Treeing Walker Coonhound weighing approximately 65 lbs and less than 2 years old. He is a healthy, happy, smart dog. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and house broken and crate trained. He loves treats and is very affection driven. As you can see he is a handsome boy! He is also a survivor and has overcome many obstacles in his short life. He truly is an underdog to root for. He is eager to please and craves affection so he loves cuddles. A little history on him: I'm not sure of his past life but it was ruff because he still has scars. He was rescued from a shelter in a terrible state, having been previously abused/neglected. He had been at the shelter for months overlooked because he was heartworm positive and severely emaciated. However, he successfully was treated for heartworm and overcame that obstacle and is now healthy. He originally weighed only 27 lbs and is now at a healthy weight. He used to be scared even of walking through doorways and going indoors and now he comes and goes as he pleases because he even learned how to open doors. Probably because of what he has lived through he can startle easily and I don't recommend sneaking up on him until he is at ease in your home. He has become much more trusting, even of strangers sometimes, and is becoming a better judge of character. He likes people and is very curious, wanting to sniff everyone he meets. He also really dislikes thunder and loud noises, like those made from machinery and starts barking, though many dogs do that. But he is overcoming those fears once he sees nothing bad is happening to him. He has made great strides in a short time which is proof that he is well on his way to being rehabilitated from whatever horrible experiences he had in the past and suffered through no fault of his own. He likes routine and adjusts well once he knows what is expected of him. He is very intelligent, amazes me how quickly he learns things. He is housebroken and knows basic commands which he learned very quickly so he can for sure learn even more as he loves people and really wants to please. He is affection and treat driven so you can use this to your advantage. He loves cuddles and likes to get attention. He can have a possessive streak and once he chooses a favorite person he wants their attention which is why it's best he goes to a home with someone that will give him the time and attention he deserves and without other pets so he doesn't have to feel like he is competing for attention. We love him dearly and are so proud of all the progress he has made but unfortunately cannot keep him because he is way too ruff with our toy poodle. He needs further training to help him not be so ruff and clumsy. He isn't aware of his strength and size and likes to jump and play ruff (still somewhat a puppy) which is dangerous for small pets or children because of his size and weight. He would benefit from having a loving person that can train him with firmness. He is housebroken. He sleeps in his crate and is crate trained so even during the day he will often go into his crate on his own when he wants to rest. So leaving him in the crate when you leave the home is not an issue for him. He obeys basic commands though he does have an independent streak to him. He needs someone that has a large yard or land where he can play and run. As is natural for a hound he likes to sniff everything and needs that stimulation and ability to release his natural energy. He deserves a forever home and has many years ahead to make the right family very happy. I am heartbroken that we can't be that family he deserves. I really don't want to have to take him back to the shelter and would rather find the right rescue or person to have him. If you would like to know more about him please reach out.
