Rio has been my constant companion for 3+ years. I got him as a rescue and he has been by my side loving and protecting me trough two pregnancies. Throughout our time with him he has been reactive and fearful towards strangers especially men,and demonstrates herding behavior towards children, nipping at them on two occasions, but we've tried to support him in feeling safe in a managed environment. Unfortunately we didn't properly monitor him, and when in a closed space he bit our toddler who was running and being loud. We feel he could be so successful in a home without children with routine predictable schedule. All he wants is to have his food on time and to chase a ball with a chuck it. He loves the beach and running. He is very mellow and happy and loving when in a calm and predictable environment. He also doesn't much like other dogs. He will tolerate them but will become upset if they try to get too close with him, even in a playful way, and nips and lunges at them. After realizing this, we didn't expose him to dogs outside known family dogs.
