About Trixy

Are you the parent of a peppy pup who longs for an equally energetic playmate? Or perhaps you're a fitness buff in search of a running partner? Well, our little Trixy will do the trick! Trixy would LOVE to spend much of her day wrestling, chasing, and playing with a canine companion of roughly similar size, i.e. 11 lbs.(though she could stand to gain a pound or two). She would also likely be pleased with a daily minimum of an hour of running/walking time with you, and we're pretty sure she possesses the power to partner up with both you AND your pooch. Approximately 2 years old, this rattie mix has full-on terrier temperament with the flip side (the 'off' switch or 'cuddle button') that rat terrier fans love so much. In those quiet moments, she is a complete sweetie pie, who loves to cuddle. However Trixy is a work in progress and is going to need more than a playmate to become the perfect pooch she is meant to be; she's also going to need a patient and experienced pet parent. She's doing well with house-training, and while she's not completely reliable, she does show her need to go out by trotting over to the door. She's also very attentive to her human, makes great eye contact, and is extremely food motivated (not a surprise as she was found as a stray, scrounging through trash for something to eat). These qualities have helped her learn the house rules in her foster home quickly and will help you as you work with her. And she will definitely need your help to feel at ease with new people. Possibly due to her time on the streets as a stray, Trixy is a firm adherent of the 'stranger danger' school of thought. She is very wary and will back away from people she encounters off home turf. Inside her home, she's more likely to bark at your visitors, but with the proper introductions, she can be won over. She was not at all impressed with her foster mom's house cleaner, who came calling with a big bag of supplies and a vacuum cleaner, but she was putty in the hands of a patient guest who offered copious edible treats.
